Q. 1. Explain Overall Productivity and Factorial Productivity.

Answer: Productivity is an average measure of the efficiency of production. It can be expressed as the ratio of output to inputs used in the production process, i.e. output per unit of input.  When all outputs and inputs are included in the productivity measure it is called total productivity. Outputs and inputs are defined in the total productivity measure as their economic values. The value of outputs minus the value of inputs is a

Q. 3. What are the advantages and limitations of a Product Layout? Explain.

Answer: In manufacturing, facility layout consists of configuring the plant site with lines, buildings, major facilities, work areas, aisles, and other pertinent features such as department boundaries. While facility layout for services may be similar to that for manufacturing, it also may be somewhat different—as is the case with offices, retailers, and warehouses. Because of its relative permanence, facility layout probably is one of the most crucial elements affecting efficiency. An efficient layout can reduce unnecessary material handling, help to keep costs low, and maintain product flow through the facility.

Q. 4. Discuss the evolution of Six Sigma. How is it implemented? Write its steps.

Answer: The Six Sigma methodology is not a revolutionary way of thinking, and it does not provide a radically new set of quality tools. It is more of an evolutionary development in the science of continuous improvement that combines the best elements from many earlier quality initiatives. Although some of the tools used in Six Sigma, such as quality function deployment (QFD), are relatively new, most, such as the fishbone diagram, date back 50 years or more.
