Question.1. Explain the objectives and principles of hospital planning.

Answer:Hospitals are the most complex of building types. Each hospital is comprised of a wide range of services and functional units. These include diagnostic and treatment functions, such as clinical laboratories, imaging, emergency rooms, and surgery; hospitality functions, such as food service and housekeeping; and the fundamental inpatient care or bed-related function. This diversity is reflected in the breadth and specificity of regulations, codes



Question.2. List the objectives of ward planning. Explain the various design and layouts of wards.

Answer:The implementation of overall plan for nursing department provides for establishment of a number of units of wards. So the process of administration must enter into these wards.

Objectives of Ward Management:

·         To provide highest quality nursing care for patient.



Question.3. Outline the planning considerations required in setting up an accident and emergency department. Add a note on its importance.

Answer:An emergency department (ED), also known as an accident & emergency department (A&E), emergency room (ER) or casualty department, is a medical treatment facility specializing in emergency medicine, the acute care of patients who present without prior appointment; either by their own means or by that of an ambulance. The emergency department is usually found in a hospital or other primary care center.

Answer:The medical record is a powerful tool that allows the treating physician to track the patient’s medical history and identify problems or patterns that may help determine the course of health care.

Answer:Hospital Committees are regular standing committees prescribed by regulatory agencies and deemed necessary by hospital administration in formulating policies, coordinating and monitoring hospital-wide activities that are considered critical in the delivery of quality health care services.




Question.6. Imagine that you are appointed as a consultant for setting up radiology and x-ray department in a tertiary care teaching hospital. What are the planning considerations you have to keep in your mind before executing the task?

Answer:The imaging department within a hospital or as a stand-alone centre can be treated as aseparate business as it is a big profit centre.
