·       All Questions carry equal marks.
·       All Questions are compulsory
·       All answers to be explained in not more than 1000 words for question 1 and 2 and for question 3 in not more than 500 words for each subsection. Use relevant examples, illustrations as far as possible.
·       All answers to be written individually. Discussion and group work is not advisable.
·       Students are free to refer to any books/reference material/website/internet for attempting their assignments, but are not allowed to copy the matter as it is from the source of reference.
·       Students should write the assignment in their own words. Copying of assignments from other students is not allowed.



Question. 1. Vipul has been with Dharma Industries since the past 10 years. Vipul has been handling a small team of 4 employees. As the company business is expanding Vipul’s team size has increased from 4 to 10 subordinates. Vipul has been investing time with each of his subordinates to guide them so that his overall team’s performance is excellent. The annual appraisal is due. Vipul has heard about ‘errors in performance appraisals’. He would like to be pro-active and avoid these errors. How will you propose to coach Vipul in handling the appraisal of a bigger team and overcoming errors in performance appraisals.? (10 marks)

Answer: In this case, Vipul has worked with Dharma Industries since the past 10 years. Vipul has been efficiently handling team of 4 employees. With the expansion of company business, Vipul’s team size has increased from 4 to 10 subordinates. Vipul has been investing time with each of his subordinates to guide them so that his overall team’s performance is excellent. The annual appraisal is due. Vipul has heard about ‘errors in performance appraisals’. He would like to be pro-active and avoid these errors. He needs training for handling the appraisal of a bigger team and overcoming errors in performance appraisals.



Question. 2. Rohan is the Vice President at Akash Manufacturing Ltd. He heads both Operations and Marketing. His immediate subordinates Vihaan and Rohit head Operations and Marketing respectively. They are constantly at logger heads and keep having conflicts. Rohan has now decided that he needs to have a performance-related coaching conversation with both Vihaan and Rohit. What steps should Rohan take to ensure that the coaching conversation is meaningful and achieves a successful outcome. (10 marks)

The company functioned as a family run business and did not have an HR department. The company has now recruited an HR Manager and is in process of implementing a Performance Management Process.


a) What are the challenges that in implementing the Performance Management process at Akansha Industries ? (5 marks)

Answer: Performance management procedure is necessary but there is a huge requirement of performance management process implementation in Akansha Industries. There are so many things that can be done in this prospect but the easiest and simples thing to do will be to follow the simple standard guidelines of the Performance management procedure with slight improvement in procedure.




b) What proactive steps should the HR Manager take to overcome pitfalls in the Performance Management Process ? (5 marks)

Answer: Being an HR Manager, there are certain things that you will need to do in order to achieve success by overcoming all different pitfalls that comes in the way of Performance Management Process. If you don’t want to take any chances then you must follow the Performance Management Process with proper proactive strategy of eliminating its pitfall.
